WELCOME CLASS OF 2028!
Markell Fresh Fest 2024
We know that starting college can be a stressful time. Hillel is here to help connect you to other freshmen, upperclassmen, and resources on campus. Here are a few of our programs designed exclusively for freshmen.
Summer Hangouts
Join us throughout July & August for Zoom hangouts. From game nights and Q&As to wellness events and conversations by major, we've got you covered. Come meet new friends.
Freshmen Fest
Who doesn't love getting a head start on college? With Freshmen Fest you not only get to move in two days early, but you also get a head start on making friends. You'll be in small groups with other freshmen from your dorm and have amazing upperclassmen leaders to help introduce you to all that UD has to offer!
I'm not religious, are these programs/Hillel for me?
You betcha! More than 1/3 of our students identify as culturally Jewish or Jew-ish. These programs aren't religious (though there are options for those who are looking for that type of experience).
My roommate isn't doing Freshmen Fest...should I still do it?
For sure! A ton of people don't have Jewish roommates and while you might think you want to do things 24/7 with your roommate it'll be good to have some things that are just for you. This will be a great way for you to make an additional set of friends outside your floor that you can introduce your roommate to later!
What happens at Freshmen Fest?
Lots of stuff! Here are a few highlights:
-
BBQ, Bagel Brunches, dinners, and meals on Main St.
-
Tours of campus where you'll go to your actual classrooms so you don't get lost the first day
-
Ice Breakers (we all hate them, but let's be real they work)
-
Optional activities like sports, challah baking, jam sessions, and hikes
-
You'll also get a t-shirt and other fun swag
How about impACT?
We're so glad you asked! You'll meet each week with about 10 freshmen and your group will be led by 2-3 upperclassmen. You'll do fun activities around Newark, get to know each other, the upperclassmen will help answer questions, show you how to register for classes when the time comes, and more.
What do most people sign up for?
Both! If you do both Freshmen Fest & impACT your Freshmen Fest group will be the same group of freshmen and upperclassmen leaders that you'll have for impACT. It's a great way to get to know people from the start.
When is the deadline to register?
We ask that you register before the end of July. This gives us a chance to order your t-shirt and introduce you to your group. If you didn't get the chance to register before August, no worries! Contact Rabbi Jeremy to get more information!
